About Foothills Bisons Hockey

The Foothills Bisons Hockey Club, based in High River and surrounding communities, has built a program rooted in teamwork, leadership, and community support.

In their second season partnering with TeamFund to offer food fundraising to help offset costs for their members, the Bisons achieved an exciting milestone: nearly doubling their results year over year.

In 2025, the Foothills Bisons raised over $4,100 with the Fill Your Freezer fundraiser, demonstrating what’s possible when families, coaches, and organizers are aligned around an easy, effective fundraising plan.

By relieving some of the financial pressure on families, they allow athletes to focus on what matters most: playing hard, competing well, and enjoying the experiences that shape their hockey journey.

What truly set this campaign apart was familiarity and trust. After running their first fundraiser with TeamFund in 2024, raising $2,395 for their players, they were already familiar with the tasty products from the Fill Your Freezer. 

Families who had previously participated were excited to restock on their favourite products and new participants were excited to give it a taste. This built-in enthusiasm helped drive momentum early, ensuring strong engagement across the entire club.

From the moment the campaign opened, families stepped up with confidence, sharing their unique fundraising link and encouraging friends and extended networks to support the team.

That level of buy in – both emotional and practical – helped the bisons surpass expectations and achieve one of their strongest fundraising campaigns yet. With this engagement, their goal percentage raised from 59% to 104%, nearly doubling their fundraising results from the previous year.

This year, the bisons raised $4,192 for their members.

These results speak volumes about the culture of the Foothills Bisons Hockey program. The club fosters an environment where families are connected, coaches lead with purpose, and athletes benefit from a supportive community that truly believes in their success. 

When those elements come together, fundraising becomes more than a seasonal task. It becomes a shared achievement.

The U16AA Blazers in Lloydminister have raised over $4K in their first Fill Your Freezer Fundraiser!

About U16AA Blazers

The U16AA Blazers is a youth hockey team that is part of the larger organization of Lloydminster Minor Hockey Association. (LMHA). 

The association focuses on developing hockey programming for youth in Lloydminister, Alberta/Saskatchewan through coaching, practices, and tournaments. 

Hockey expenses can add up, so fundraising is crucial to ensuring hockey remains an accessible sport. The LMHA runs an annual fundraiser to provide additional funding for team hockey expenses. 

Fundraising eases the financial burden for families while still providing plenty of opportunities for additional ice time, tournaments, and team-building events for players. 

Keeping Minor Hockey Affordable with Food Fundraising

At their most recent delivery this October, we talked to Calvin, who has organized their annual food fundraisers with TeamFund for the last three years.

The LMHA started with the Bacon Fundraiser and grew to love it because it is the only fundraiser they need all season!

Supporters can stock up on 11lb boxes of Fresh Canadian Bacon while earning a minimum of $18 per box for their team.

In their most recent campaign, they have expanded to the Fill Your Freezer fundraiser to provide a variety of delicious grocery staples to their hockey families and supporters.

The team raised $4,046 this Fall to support hockey costs.

About Stettler Minor Hockey Association

Stettler Minor Hockey Association is a hockey club in Northern Alberta that is making its mark in competitive hockey.

With a population of just under 6000, the club boasts over 20 teams, bringing the sport of hockey to youth aged 5-17 in Stettler. 

Not only that, but their home rink, Stettler Recreation Centre has hosted several tournaments for Northern Albertan teams.

Behind the scenes of the club’s success are dedicated parents, volunteers, coaches, athletes, and board members to make these exciting games and events happen. 

Stettler combines the love of hockey with the love of bacon for a hugely profitable fundraiser every year, partnering with TeamFund.

We had the opportunity to meet with Tersha, Stettler Hockey’s current Fundraising Director just before their most recent fundraiser wrapped up this Fall!

Hockey is an expensive sport, so fundraising is critical to keep the sport thriving and affordable in the area.

Parents who participate in the Bacon Fundraiser are able to have the funds they raise allocated towards their volunteer bond requirements.

With the funds, the club is able to pay for ice time, equipment, jerseys, tournaments, referees, player development, and any other administrative costs that come up throughout the season.

This is Tersha’s second time running the Bacon Fundraiser and Stettler Hockey is thrilled to have found a fundraising formula that works!

Stettler Minor Hockey has run three Bacon Fundraisers with TeamFund, but this year was Tersha’s first time leading the fundraiser:

This year, Stettler Hockey was able to raise over $10,600 for their organization. Parents and supporters love how delicious the bacon is, making it an easy sell!

In the past, the organization ran several fundraisers throughout the year, but Tersha is super excited that they were able to raise over half of their annual goal of $20,000 fundraising dollars with TeamFund’s Bacon Fundraiser this year.

As a result, Tersha’s job is easier! The association is likely only going to have to do one more fundraiser this year. Popular in the hockey world, they are looking forward to a 50/50 raffle with Rafflebox later this year.

Lakeland Lightning Hockey raised over $11,500 in their most recent bacon fundraiser to keep their hockey programs affordable! 

About Lakeland Lightning Hockey 

Founded by Joel Miller, the Lakeland Lightning Hockey Academy started as a spring team and swiftly evolved into a competitive force in their local league, the Premiere Hockey League. The essence of the club lies in its close-knit community.

Based in Glendon, Alberta, Lakeland Lightning currently has three elite hockey teams. U11, U13 Minor and U13 Major.

Keeping Lakeland Lightning Hockey Academy Accessible & Affordable with Bacon

Hockey can be an expensive sport, and for Lakeland Hockey, it’s important that the programming is affordable so that any kid who wants to play can get on the ice.

We had the opportunity to speak to Shantel, Lakeland Lightning Hockey’s U13 Team Manager, about Lightning Hockey and their experience with TeamFund Fundraising.

For Shantel, taking the team manager role at the club was a “no-brainer,” because Coach Joel makes it so easy. On top of that, many of the families who are part of the hockey community have been part of the academy for 5+ years and the team feels like a big family.

The club runs raffle tables and small fundraisers to offset some of the hockey costs, but their biggest money-making fundraiser is the Bacon Fundraiser, which they run twice a year.

The Bacon Fundraiser helps cover costs like ice time, tournaments, and buses for trips. 

In Fall 2023, Lakeland Hockey raised over $11,500 in just ONE fundraising campaign.

Parents and supporters RAVE about how delicious the bacon is. Not only is it fresh and tasty, but it’s cheaper than Costco and comes in convenient packaging that’s easy for families to divvy up in a way that suits them.

This was Shantel’s first time running the bacon fundraiser, and she commends the seamless support provided by Dominique and Susan at TeamFund.

Any questions she had were answered in minutes, and despite the change in organizers over the years, the fundraiser continues to bring in more and more funding each year!

The Knights Hockey Club has raised over $24,000 since 2020 to support their outstanding players! 

About Knight Knockey Club

Knights Hockey Club is a Calgary-based hockey association. The club prides itself on equal opportunity, fostering the development of young players ranging from U7 to U18.

The Knights strongly emphasize instilling the values of fair play, respect, sportsmanship, mental and physical wellness, and teamwork in their players.

In 2019, Knights Hockey Club came to life by merging the Lake Bonavista Breakers and the Midnapore Mavericks associations, expanding its reach to 12 Calgary communities. 

As thrilling as it is, hockey often comes with financial challenges due to how expensive playing can be. Recognizing this, Knights Hockey Club has implemented several initiatives to alleviate this financial burden on families.

Overcoming Financial Challenges in Hockey with Food Fundraising

We had the privilege of speaking with Erin, the club’s administrator, during their TeamFund fundraising initiative.

Since 2020, Knights Hockey has harnessed the power of TeamFund’s food fundraisers to generate over $24,000 for player assistance.

In Summer of 2022, the Knights raised almost $6,000 for player assistance with 75% going directly into player accounts and 25% to the club’s dedicated uKnighted Fund, a financial assistance program for families who need it most.
