Cascades Swim Club has run five successful Fill Your Freezer fundraising campaigns, raising over $14,600 to support individual swimmer accounts since 2021

About Cascades Swim Club

Cascade Swim Club is a year-round competitive swim club based in Calgary, Alberta. Their swim programs range from beginner to elite, helping their members improve their swimming skills and improve their success. From a fun way to keep up with your physical fitness to helping competitive athletes achieve their Olympic dreams, Cascade is a welcoming environment to all.

The non-profit club has been running for over 50 years, originating at the Acadia pool and now operating out of 4 pools in South Calgary. They aim to be a progressive, inclusive, and dynamic club leading the community with skill development and competitive experiences.

Not only does swimming help athletes keep up with physical fitness, but the sport of swimming also helps build character, instill confidence, and create lifelong friendships.

Swimming is a volunteer-heavy sport. It can take anywhere from 50 – 450 volunteers to run a swim meet, depending on the level of the athletes, so a strong parent community is a given!

Offsetting Swim Membership Fees with Food Fundraising

In order to help offset the cost of swimming, Cascade Swim runs several account fundraising initiatives throughout the year like Purdys and Bingo, along with food fundraising. These efforts give members a chance to offset their membership fees and help the club earn money to support their programming.

What better way to boost your funds than with grocery staples that families are already purchasing at the grocery store!? 

Cascade’s newest fundraiser is the Fill Your Freezer, which has quickly become a favourite for their swim families. The Fill Your Freezer fundraiser gives members an opportunity to sell items to stock the freezer and earn an average of 20% back for the club (burgers, steaks, chicken, sausages, and more!)

In a family-oriented sport like swim, this is a great way to get groceries and support your kids’ sports at the same time!

Cascade Swim has raised over $14,600 with the Fill Your Freezer Fundraiser since 2022.

TeamFund tracks sales per swimmer so the club can divide the funds into individual swimmer accounts.

Cascades Swim Club raised over $3,200 this February in their swim account fundraiser. Families stocked up on bacon, burgers, steaks, and more while raising money for their kids’ sports at the same time!

About Cascades Swim Club

Cascade Swim Club is a year-round competitive swim club based in Calgary, Alberta. Their club welcomes athletes at all levels: from keeping the community safe with basic swim lessons to helping Olympic athletes achieve their dreams.

The club has been around for over 50 years and provides the community with inclusive skill development and competitive experiences.

In order to provide swim meet opportunities for youth, a lot of volunteers are required. It can take anywhere from 50 – 450 volunteers to run a swim meet, depending on the level of the athletes, so a strong parent community is a given!

The University of Calgary Swim Club has raised almost $45K since 2020 with meat fundraising. TeamFund tracks profits per swimmer so that families can fundraise to support swim costs while filling their freezers at the same time! 

About University of Calgary Swim Club (UCSC)

The University of Calgary Swim Club (UCSC) is a year-round competitive swim club that provides every member an opportunity to improve their swimming skills and achieve success from novice to international competitor. The club accepts swimmers as young as 6 and supports athletes all the way to Varsity and Olympic swimming!

We had the opportunity to speak to Jess, the current Club Manager, about their experience fundraising with TeamFund. Aside from organizing fundraisers, Jess is also responsible for swimmer and coach registration, arranging travel, and administration. She started helping the club with travel and events in 2016, and she took her current role in 2019.

Jess swam competitively growing up and loves the strong community that comes with swim clubs. Swimming is a big volunteer sport, with parents helping to officiate and run swim meets. Aside from a knack for organizing, Jess loves the opportunity to work with so many different types of people as Club Manager.

Keeping Swim Fees Affordable with Food Fundraising

To offset some swimming costs, UCSC runs several large fundraisers throughout the year, like bingo and raffles, to help raise money for their programming.

One fundraiser they return to again and again is TeamFund food fundraisers, partnering with Spolumbos and Bow River Meats.  

UCSC has returned to TeamFund Fundraising twice a year for 3 years to raise money for swimmer accounts to keep swimming affordable. Jess learned about TeamFund when a new family from another swim club, Calgary Winter Club, joined UCSC and suggested a meat fundraiser. The vendor they had used was closed due to COVID-19, and in the process, they discovered TeamFund.

By partnering with TeamFund, UCSC families can stock their freezers with grocery staples while earning 20% back for their athletes.

The funds raised by swim families and their supporters go toward training travel, meet entry fees, or gear and equipment.

Families can share and shop the fundraising link online and pick up their delivery from the university parking lot on delivery day.

TeamFund tracks sales per swimmer so that Jess can divide the funds into individual swimmer accounts after the fundraiser.

In their most recent campaign, they raised over $6,400 to credit swimmer accounts.

The Power of a Strong Community & Consistency 

Having a few consistent big fundraisers that they trust allows UCSC to plan ahead instead of jumping from small fundraiser to small fundraiser:

This fundraiser sticks around because the club can raise $5000 – $8000 per fundraising campaign consistently.

Jess and UCSC club parents can trust that the fundraiser will be profitable and provide consistently delicious, high-quality products from local vendors.

ALL TIME: $44.7K raised for individual swimmer accounts from 2020 – 2023!

Since 2020, UCSC has raised almost $45,000 to credit swimmer accounts. It’s not only easy for parents but also for busy Club Manager Jess to sign up and share the fundraiser:

 Calgary Winter Club Sea Lions have raised almost $40,000 with Meats and Pizzas! Proceeds go towards a “booster fund” to support social events, swim meet costs, and any swim equipment that’s needed for the club.

About Calgary Winter Club Sea Lions

Founded in 1961, the Calgary Winter Club Sea Lions is one of the oldest swim clubs in Alberta. Over the years, their athletes have achieved success from local events to university-level and national competitions.

The Sea Lions provide swimming programs and competitive meets for youth aged 8 – 17. There can be up to 85 swimmers on a team. Beyond swim meets, the club hosts competitions and some teams travel for provincial and national championships.

At the heart of the club is values of discipline, commitment, and a competitive instinct that supports many aspects of the athletes’ lives. While swimming is an individual sport, the team atmosphere fosters the development of not only athletic skills but also valuable social skills.

The Sea Lions Boost Club Funds with Food Fundraising

In an effort to provide financial support to athletes and their families, the Calgary Winter Sea Lions have created a “booster fund.” The booster fund can go toward swim meet costs, equipment, as well as helping pay for social events (like their upcoming christmas party!).

What better way to boost your funds than with grocery staples that families may otherwise purchase at the grocery store?

The club’s main fundraiser is TeamFund food fundraisers, which they have been running twice a year since 2021.

During these fundraisers, families can purchase grocery favourites like Bow River Meats, Spolumbo’s, or Coco Brooks Pizza and support the club at the same time.

Since 2021, the Sea Lions have run 6 TeamFund food fundraising campaigns and raised almost $40,000 for their booster fund.

TeamFund is Here Every Step Of The Way

We had the opportunity to speak with Sarah, the current fundraising coordinator for the Calgary Winter Club Sea Lions. Sarah has two kids in the Sea Lions and loves to volunteer and stay connected with the community.

This is Sarah’s third year as a swim parent, but her first year as fundraising coordinator. While the club runs smaller fundraisers throughout the year, TeamFund is a reliable fundraiser they return to again and again.

This was Sarah’s first TeamFund Fundraiser, and she loved how easy it was.

“Susan checked in often and was always available quickly to answer any questions. It’s an easy fundraiser to do and we had a good response from the parents.”

Even as a new organizer, Calgary Winter Sea Lions was able to raise over $5000 this winter for their athletes with a pizza and meat fundraiser, combining Bow River Meats and Coco Brooks for a delicious variety.

Calgary Aquabelles Artistic Swim Club has raised over $30,000 since 2020 with meat fundraising. The proceeds from these fundraisers go towards swimmers’ accounts to keep the sport affordable.

About Calgary Aquabelles

Calgary Aquabelles is an Artistic Swimming (Synchro) Club serving youth aged 7 – 18 that has been around for over 50 years!

The club works to develop well-rounded and confident athletes in the sport of Artistic Swimming. They have produced several world-class athletes who are often at the top level of achievement in competition. Each swimmer is dedicated to doing their best with good sportsmanship.

Artistic Swimming is an Olympic sport combining the athleticism of swimming with the dynamics of gymnastics to create a choreographed routine in the water. Routines can be done either as a team, duet, or solo.

The sport focuses on endurance, power, speed, flexibility, and grace. Not only that, but the sport builds personal skills like respect, discipline and lifelong friendships. The Aquabelles offer 4 types of programs: Summer, Pre-Competitive, Classic Competitive (provincial), and National Competitive (national).

Keeping Swim Fees Affordable with Meat Fundraising

Like many minor athletic organizations, the Aquabelles strive to keep their programming as affordable as possible. Throughout the year, the Aquabelles run several fundraisers to help offset the costs of training and competitions.

One fundraiser they return to year after year is what they call the “Meatfest.” This is a combination of the Bow River Meats and Spolumbo’s Fundraisers with TeamFund.

We had the opportunity to speak to Irene, Office Manager of the Aquabelles, who organizes the TeamFund fundraiser. Irene has worked with the Aquabelles for 13 years and her favourite part of the job of Office Manager is the opportunity to work with the families.

One of the biggest challenges with fundraising is keeping it fun and interesting for families. Families hate having to go to their friends every month asking them to buy something new. A food fundraiser has been a great option for the Aquabelles because it is practical and repeatable. 

Everyone needs to eat and our meat fundraisers allow families to buy food they may otherwise be purchasing at the grocery store!

Aquabelles has raised over $30,000 since 2020 with Food!

Since their first “MeatFest” in 2020, the Aquabelles have returned 2-3x per year to work with TeamFund. While the Aquabelles have tried many vendors with TeamFund, combining Bow River Meats and Spolumbo’s for practical meats for family freezers is their favourite.

In their most recent fundraiser this October, the Aquabelles raised almost $2500 to help keep their programming affordable.

One of the great things about TeamFund is the ability to track profits per seller. This means that the Aquabelles are able to keep track of results per swimmer and credit their swimming accounts based on their performance in the fundraiser.

This swim account credit can be used to help offset training and competition costs for their families and athletes.

If it were up to Irene, she would run every fundraiser through TeamFund! The Aquabelles have run 11 campaigns with TeamFund with no signs of stopping soon!

She loves that it is easy, not only as the organizer but for the families as well:

The support staff and the vendors are nothing but professional and they are all so great to deal with. We love TeamFund and always look forward to doing as much fundraising as we can with them!”

The team was able to raise over $2,700 towards their equipment and diving space costs! 

We had an opportunity to chat with the current Team Manager, Ashley Buchanan, who shared that her favourite thing about her role is getting to make a positive impact in the lives of youth and teach them great lessons through the sport of diving.

Fundraising is a huge part of making minor sports accessible and we all had a laugh when someone exclaimed “any money is good!” 

Dive Calgary was excited to support their athletes with the Fill Your Freezer fundraiser and are looking forward to learning from their first fundraiser with TeamFund to have even greater success in their next fundraising campaign!

Food fundraising a great fundraising idea for sports teams, as it provides a product that community supporters need (we all need to eat!) while raising money for the development of youth sports. It’s truly a fundraiser that warms both the heart and the stomach. It’s also great for BBQ season when the sun is shining.
