About U16AA Blazers

The U16AA Blazers is a youth hockey team that is part of the larger organization of Lloydminster Minor Hockey Association. (LMHA). 

The association focuses on developing hockey programming for youth in Lloydminister, Alberta/Saskatchewan through coaching, practices, and tournaments. 

Hockey expenses can add up, so fundraising is crucial to ensuring hockey remains an accessible sport. The LMHA runs an annual fundraiser to provide additional funding for team hockey expenses. 

Fundraising eases the financial burden for families while still providing plenty of opportunities for additional ice time, tournaments, and team-building events for players. 

Keeping Minor Hockey Affordable with Food Fundraising

At their most recent delivery this October, we talked to Calvin, who has organized their annual food fundraisers with TeamFund for the last three years.

The LMHA started with the Bacon Fundraiser and grew to love it because it is the only fundraiser they need all season!

In addition to bacon, the Fill Your Freezer offers items such as chicken, burgers, steaks, perogies, appetizers and more! (including gluten-free and vegetarian options)

The team raised $4,046 this Fall to support hockey costs.

Pembina Ringette raised over $2600 in their very first 100% Fresh Bacon Fundraiser to help fund tournaments and programming. This year, they won gold in provincials for the second time! 🏆

About Pembina Ringette 

Pembina Ringette Association provides ringette programming from beginners to competitive athletes in Westlock, Alberta.

Their early-year programs have one practice per week and a possible exhibition game in St. Albert.

As athletes get older, the commitment gets greater, with U10 and above athletes attending 1-2 games per weekend and up to 3 tournaments a season as far as Red Deer or Fort McMurray!

Pembina Ringette has worked really hard to build a welcoming community of strong athletes, parents, and coaches. In 2023, they won a gold provincial medal for the first time for their U16B Pembina Pursuit ringette team.

This year, the U14 Pembina Pursuit Team repeated this success by winning gold in provincials in 2024!

As the club gets older, they are beginning to add teams for players as they begin to age out, reducing the need for athletes to travel to continue to play the sport they love.

Keeping Registration Fees Low with Food Fundraising

In order to keep ringette programming affordable, the association runs several fundraisers per year to help offset tournament costs and keep registration fees low.

These fundraising initiatives include cash raffles and household item and clothing drives. The association also offers used equipment swaps on their Facebook page to help those starting out.

2012 Hurricane Academy is a minor hockey team in Calgary, Alberta. The Hurricane Academy focuses on developing hockey skills in young players through practices and clinics, as well as providing a fun and positive atmosphere for competition. Most importantly, players gain confidence in themselves and their skills on the ice. 

However, with the expenses of out-of-town tournaments and player development, the team had to find a way to raise additional funds. The Hurricane Academy turned to fundraising, and with the help of the community, were able to offset some of these costs.
