Club Spotlight: Subzero Volleyball Club | Whitehorse, YT
Funding travelling teams with community support and a food fundraiser that’s tasty and easier for busy families in Whitehorse (and beyond!)
This February, our founder Dominique travelled to Whitehorse in the Yukon Territories to support Subzero Volleyball Club on delivery day after their first successful TeamFund fundraiser.
For clubs in the Yukon, fundraising is about much more than extras. It helps make travelling to competitions possible. Subzero athletes regularly travel out of the territory to compete in Alberta. Between flights, hotels, and car rentals, these travel costs can add up quickly for families.
With the Fill Your Freezer fundraiser, families have an opportunity to offset travel costs while stocking up on high-quality, Canadian-made food in bulk.
In particular, they loved the chicken, steaks, and meatballs offered in the fundraiser.
About Subzero Volleyball Club
Subzero Volleyball Club in Whitehorse, Yukon Territories is dedicated to helping young athletes in grades 7-12 develop their skills, teamwork, and confidence through competitive volleyball.
Unlike clubs in larger cities, Subzero Volleyball athletes face a unique challenge. Every meaningful competition requires travel outside of the territory. Teams regularly fly to Alberta to compete in tournaments as part of the Alberta Premier League, giving athletes a chance to test themselves against some of the top teams in the province.
In February 2026, Subzero Volleyball Club ran their first TeamFund Fill Your Freezer Fundraiser, raising $2,253 to help offset travel costs for young athletes.
Common Challenges with Fundraising in Whitehorse
(and other remote communities) – find out if we deliver to you!
For small, rural, or remote communities like Whitehorse, fundraising comes with its own set of challenges:
- High travel costs to attend tournaments in different provinces
- A smaller population (30,000) to draw support from
- Limited access to retailers like Costco that offer bulk groceries
Not only that, they also face the usual challenges of busy family schedules and the need for a fundraiser that can track profits by athlete so funds can be distributed fairly.
Like many clubs, Subzero also relies on raffles, bottle drives, and silent auctions throughout the year to help keep competition opportunities accessible for families without adding financial strain.
When they were looking for another fundraiser to add to the mix, they needed something practical, organized, and worth the effort.
In a city without access to Costco, the Fill Your Freezer gives families the opportunity to purchase grocery staples in larger quantities, something they may not be able to access as easily locally. Instead of selling miscellaneous products people donât really need, this fundraiser offers food that families are excited to bring home and share.
Fundraising in Whitehorse Helps Yukon Athletes Compete
For Subzero athletes, this fundraiser means more than money raised. It helps create the kind of competition experiences that can change how young athletes see themselves.
With a smaller population in the Yukon, athletes often train and compete in mixed age group practices at home. Travelling to Alberta gives them the chance to face teams in their own age group and measure themselves against some of the top volleyball teams in the province.
At a tournament in early February, the U15 Flying Yeti team won gold in Division 2, defeating top-tier teams from NAIT (Edmonton) and Calgary. Their performance earned them the opportunity to compete in Division 1, the top division in their sport.
For many athletes, these moments can be transformational. Coming from a small community in Northern Canada, they donât always know how they will measure up until they step on the court and realize: yes, they can compete at the highest level and they belong.
Whitehorse is a growing, community-oriented city where people consistently support one another. That spirit showed up in full force during their Fill Your Freezer fundraiser.
Family, friends, and community members supported the team to show that even in smaller cities, strong community engagement drives real results.Â
Together, they were able to raise $2,253 to offset travel costs for their athletes.Â
What Made This Fundraising Approach Work
Subzero Volleyball collaborated with TeamFund for a fundraiser that:
- Simplifies fundraising logistics including setup, easy-to-read reports, and organizing delivery day, without hours of admin
- Tracks profits by athlete so that organizers can distribute funds to athletes and directly support individual travel costs
- Offers high-quality, Canadian-made food that families are actually excited to purchase instead of fundraising products that inevitably wind up in the junk drawer
- Reduces stress on busy families with an easy online system that made ordering and sharing their fundraiser easy
- Keeps delivery day organized with a simple process for inventory, easy-to-read labels for sorting orders, and coordinating pickup without relying on tons of volunteers so itâs manageable not overwhelming
- Provides hands-on support from fundraising experts, so you can ask questions throughout your campaign
For Subzeroâs first campaign, we travelled to the Yukon to personally support the delivery, helping the group feel confident, prepared, and cared for every step of the way.
While we do not travel to every delivery, we support every campaign with clear systems, guidance, and hands-on help every step of the way.
What the Organizers Had to Say:Â

Trish, Parent Organizer
TeamFund went above and beyond for their service.
Such a fantastic company to do a Team Fundraiser with. Cannot wait to try the food. It all looks so good.
Dominique was so knowledgeable about how to do things right in organizing the products. She is so passionate about helping teams fundraise and she genuinely cares about the client and her job!
After a successful first campaign, Subzero Volleyball Club is already looking forward to running another Spring fundraiser with TeamFund next season.
For a first-time campaign, these results show how effective food fundraising in Whitehorse and other remote communities can be when the products are practical and the process is organized.
Weâre proud to support Subzero Volleyball Club and are inspired by their commitment to helping athletes compete, grow, and realize their potential.

Krista, Team Manager
Our volleyball team had an outstanding experience working with TeamFund Fundraising! This fundraiser was a huge success and helped us raise the money we needed to travel from the Yukon to tournaments in Alberta.
From the very beginning, the staff were incredibly helpful. They made setting up our account simple and supported us every step of the way including tracking buyers, monitoring sellers, and keeping everything organized. Communication was excellent, with emails and notifications that made the whole process smooth.
One of the standout moments was when Dominique, the founder, travelled all the way to the Yukon to personally oversee the delivery. Her involvement ensured that everything went perfectly.
We also loved the high-quality, Canadian-made food products, offered in bulk and well-suited for Yukon families and supporters. Another major advantage was the pickup system, individual sellers were responsible for picking up and distributing to their buyers, which saved us from coordinating one massive pickup event.
Overall, TeamFund made fundraising easy, efficient, and enjoyable. We highly recommend them to any team looking for a reliable and supportive fundraising partner!
