Wolverines Hockey Club has raised over $35,000 since 2020 with TeamFund Fundraising to support their exceptional players!Â
About Wolverines Hockey Club
(formerly Blackfoot Hockey)
Based in Calgary, the Wolverine’s Hockey Club is a hockey association that works hard to create an equal-opportunity hockey program.
Serving Southeast Calgary, the programs range from U7 to U21, focused on fair play, team participation, and teaching valuable life skills.
They even have alumni who have gone on to leagues like the NHL, NCAA, USHL, WHL, CJHL, and KIJHL!
The Wolverines recently got their name during the 2022/23 season. The club has been around for 30+ years, and they felt it was time to embrace indigenous reconciliation efforts.
Keeping Hockey Accessible with Food Fundraising
Fundraising is crucial to making sure hockey is accessible for families who experience financial barriers. Hockey can be expensive, from registration fees to equipment, cash calls, competitions, and more.
We spoke to Erin, the Wolverines Hockey Club administrator, at their recent food fundraiser delivery day!
Wolverines Hockey has raised over $35,000 with TeamFund’s food fundraisers since 2020.
Typically, the hockey club combines TeamFund fundraising vendors and has tried almost all of them: Coco Brooks Pizza and Cookies, Fill Your Freezer, Simple Simons, and Bow River Meats.Â
Food fundraising allows hockey families to stock up on food favourites while simultaneously contributing to their child’s hockey costs!
Track Profits Per Player and Give Back to Athletes
The Wolverine’s choose to split their fundraising profits 75% – 25%, made easy with TeamFund’s tracking of each seller’s contributions, a significant portion of the profits directly benefits players and reduces their fees.
The remaining 25% flows into a Player Assistance Fund, providing financial support to families who face difficulty meeting hockey costs.
The Wolverines have truly mastered the art of combining families’ need for food and fundraising!
Online Fundraising Means No Chasing Payments
Not too long ago, hockey registration meant standing in line with a cheque in hand. And fundraising meant handing out paper forms, chasing payments, and keeping inventory.
Erin is always looking for ways to improve efficiency and make sure everything is tracked accurately. It requires a very organized mindset, but the rise of online solutions is a game-changer.
Online fundraising means fewer hours are spent inside spreadsheets. That time can be replaced with enjoying the games, engaging with the community, and spreading the word about community hockey programs.
Erin first tried TeamFund when they were previously known as “Blackfoot Hockey.” Their first TeamFund fundraiser was in 2020 when families needed support more than ever due to the pandemic.
They were able to rake in an impressive $11,000 (read the full story here) to make sure kids could still cover fees to play hockey. Since this great achievement, now with a new name, the Wolverines have returned year after year.
In their most recent Summer 2023 TeamFund fundraiser, Wolverines Hockey Club raised almost $8,000 for their players.
Parents look forward to annually stocking up on food and supporting hockey at the same time.
TeamFund Makes Fundraising Tastier & Easier
TeamFund takes care of logistics, payments, and tracking (all the tedious paperwork). As a result, Erin can focus on connecting with the community and motivating players to make sales.
On delivery day, a group of volunteers make light work of the pick-up process, efficiently sorting orders and distributing them to families.
Erin underlined the convenience of leveraging TeamFund’s online tools and support from fundraising experts when she said:
“I love working with Dominique and her team. Parents love the food and TeamFund's online platform makes it so easy that it’s really a no-brainer.”

Erin’s journey with hockey began when her son took to the ice as a young player!
As a devoted parent, she started lending a hand with the administrative tasks for her son’s team and eventually became involved with both the Knights and Wolverines clubs.
Her son has since outgrown minor hockey, but Erin loves to stay involved in the community and cheer on young athletes.

Online fundraising can be so easy with TeamFund that Erin runs two concurrent hockey fundraisers yearly to support Player Assistance funds and player accounts for the Wolverines and the Knights.
Both hockey associations’ Calgary food fundraisers succeed year after year, tapping into different communities within the city and taking advantage of the regional divisions that are part of the hockey world.
and YOUR hockey club can do it too!
