Alberta Dance Academy: Over $17K Raised To Support Dancers

Alberta Dance Academy has raised over $17,000 with TeamFund’s local food fundraisers! Proceeds help dancers to offset costs like class time, costuming, and competition costs.

About Alberta Dance Academy

Alberta Dance Academy is a vibrant dance studio based in Okotoks, Alberta. Since 1990, they have cultivated an inclusive and loving community of expressive and coachable dancers. The Alberta Dance Academy is built on the values of grit, discipline, ambition, humility, and empathy.

Alberta Dance Academy supports both recreational and competitive dancers. Recreational dance is from 2-year-old beginners to adults. Their competitive team comprises of 79 dancers across eight different groups, spanning ages 5-18. Most of their competitions are in Calgary, Red Deer, and Medicine Hat. However, some teams are venturing as far as Scottsdale, Arizona this year!

In 2007, Erica Hendry became the owner of the Alberta Dance Academy and cherishes the familial community that defines the studio. Regardless of age or skill level, everyone supports each other to create a nurturing environment for dancers to thrive.

For Erica, dance is more than just a form of creative and artistic expression. Dance is also a way to impart life skills that go beyond the studio: punctuality, discipline, work ethic, and how to balance ambition with empathy. Aside from these skills, it is also a great activity to keep youth busy, active, and out of trouble.

Keeping Dance Affordable with Food Fundraising

Unlike a traditional sports team, the amount of time a dancer dedicates to their craft is unique amongst each family. Some dancers will do just one competitive dance in a year, while others will do up to thirteen. From classes to costuming to travel, it can become a very expensive sport.

Erica runs several fundraisers throughout the year to help support dancers with fees. Some of their smaller fundraisers include chocolate and seasonal flowers (perfect for celebrating an amazing show!) However, their biggest fundraiser each year is with TeamFund.

October 2023: almost $5000 raised!

This October, Alberta Dance Academy raised over $4800 in their most recent fundraiser with a Fill Your Freezer, Simple Simons, and Thai Manna options.

Alberta Dance Academy allows any dancer to participate in fundraising to help with their dancing costs, whether they are a recreational dancer or competitive one.
